People of the Funk and People of the Punk Unite!!
This is hands down one of the coolest cassettes I've ever come across, and
it's arrived from far off lands and nearly 40 years ago to be with us here
today. It's The Best Disco Punk 2, a rare collection of super hard to find
early 80s underground dance cuts on an extremely uncommon import cassette tape.
This sh*t is rare, and IT IS FUNKY!!!!
On this tape is funkier music than can be found in the mainstream remnants of
this era like Talking Heads, New Order and the like as it contains underground
dancefloor gems, all from 1982-83. When perusing the track list, Bowie's "Let's
Dance" immediately pops out, followed by Grace Jones' "Cry Now Laugh Later",
but nearly every other song is a lesser known deep disco cut, and many of them
are now only availble as 12" or 7" singles on Discogs. Not only is it an well
curated collection, it's mixed together by an expert DJ who keeps the party
going with music the world has all but forgotten about, expect for probably
James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem, who is the closest we have to disco punk
nowadays.
The cassette is an import from Foot Print Records, originating in Malaysia but
marketed in the UK. Often "bootlegs" like this one can only mean inferior audio
quality, but in this case, the cassette is sturdier and the sound is actually
better than virtually all officially released tapes produced at that time!
Whoever put this together definitely knew the music and cared about its
presentation, and all I can say is this tape is something special, from the
music, to the quality, to the rare niche to the international path its taken to
this listing, The Best Disco Punk 2 is what cassette dreams are made of.
